Our Region Needs A Stronger Today and Tomorrow

California Needs Jobs

Our region needs jobs now, and businesses need help as they grow. And as I work to become your Assemblyman, my goals remain the same as they have been as Mayor: To create more jobs for our current workforce by providing resources and reducing challenges so that our business community continues to gain momentum. This has been and will continue to be achieved through diligent and focused work by continuing to learn from our business leaders and then partnering with them to develop new solutions to our region's economic development needs.

It also will focus upon developing a well-prepared workforce that is ready to serve all of our most vital industries. Over the past year, I've been meeting with the mayors of Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Norco and Riverside to explore the many opportunities we have both within our respective cities and in our region. This has been a very valuable process and we're helping local businesses expand and upgrade their existing facilities, add new enterprises to our area, and of course add more employment opportunities right here in the 60th Assembly District.

Education Is Key

Many years ago, I realized that our region's success is directly related to and heavily dependent upon our commitment to educating and developing our workforce--now, and for the future. To help our current workforce meet the demands of the regional, state, national and international markets we do busy in every day, I have for the last several years been working closely with leaders in education in both the K-12 and higher education systems to more effectively build programs for training and development that creates a more diverse, widely-skilled and highly-productive region of workers.

I've done this by being a member of the Joint Schools committees with the Corona-Norco Unified School District, as Chairman of the regional (WRCOG) Subcommittee on Education, and by working with leaders of our institutions of higher education within our region to bring a stronger relationship between our business community, K-12 education, and higher education so that the future members of our workforce are learning more thoroughly about their career choices and arriving to their jobs ready for individual and company success.

Real Fiscal Governance

It's all too obvious to all of us that our State Budget and the process in which a budget is crafted is in critical condition. As your Assemblyman, I will arrive in Sacramento and immediately work with the entire legislature to return to the practices of responsible government with genuine solutions.

Our cities simply cannot continue to outperform the State and its budget plan any longer, nor can it continue to be the target of "money raids" of local revenues and the source of funds to solve State Budget shortfalls. As your Assemblyman, I will be dedicated to preserving the constitutional and legislative rights of communities and individuals alike that have been wrongly set aside in recent years.
