Corona Mayor Stan Skipworth announced his candidacy for the 60th Assembly District today. Skipworth was elected to the Corona City Council in 2006. He retired from a 31-year career in law enforcement as chief of police at Cal State Long Beach, he said in his announcement.
"This region needs more jobs now and a commitment to growing the Riverside County economy and I am completely dedicated to both."
The 60th Assembly District is a new district entirely within western Riverside County. It includes the city of Corona, the home of Assemblyman Jeff Miller who has announced that he is running for State Senate, and the cities of Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Norco, a western section of the city of Riverside, and the unincorporated communities of Home Gardens, Coronita and El Cerrito. Skipworth said in an email that he grew up in the Jurupa Valley, now a city. He and his wife, Michell, a Corona-Norco school board member, have lived in Corona since 1992. They adopted six of their seven children.
